dc.description.abstract This presentation gives an overview of what is meant with Open Data and FAIR Data. Firstly it lists the key features of Open Data. This is then followed by a list of reasons why people do not want to make their data open, as well as reasons why data should be open. Following this an overview of FAIR Data is given, with an explanation of what it means and where the idea came from. The FAIR Data principles are then touched on, and the benefits of these principles are emphasized. The presenter then highlights the FAIR Self Assessment Tool by the Australian ARDC, and concludes with a comparison between FAIR Data and Open Data and how these two concepts differ and complement one another. A list of international initiatives is also given. en_ZA
