dc.description.abstract *Acknowledgement for use of slogan in title: University of Michigan, Deep Blue. This paper was presented on invitation of the Academic Sector AGM of the South African Publishers' Association (PASA), 20 August 2008, at the Vineyard Hotel Conference Centre, Cape Town. Quote from PASA notes: "Institutions like universities and libraries are increasingly storing and curating content digitally and making it open to public access. While this is a welcome and inevitable result of the digital revolution, it poses some copyright issues. Broad South African interest in this matter is reflected by a workshop to be held in October by the University of Pretoria. (See http://www.library.up.ac.za/irtoolbox/aboutworkshop.htm .)" This paper was listed on the program as: "Institutional repositories in South African Higher Education Institutions - how are they working and what is the way forward?" Introduction: "We're delighted to include a short case study presentation by Mrs Ina Smith, Digital Research Repository (UPSpace) Manager & eApplication Specialist in the Department of Library Services at the University of Pretoria, which we hope will clarify many of the concerns expressed by PASA members regarding where publishers fit into these burgeoning vehicles for knowledge dissemination. Ina will be available to answer any questions arising from the floor." en
