These photos originally belonged to General Piet Cronje who collected them for his planned ‘circus’ collection (which would have been like the Wild Bill rodeo show).
Richard Wade married one of his great-grand daughters (Sumarie Cronje). The photos were scanned by Louis Barendse and Richard Wade about 1998.
The originals were sent to the Geneva Kruger Museum just afterwards (about 2 months) but were destroyed en route in a fire.
The photos generally illustrate the Pretoria and Johannesburg area from the 1880s to the 1920s and include the burial of Pres Paul Kruger, the 1916 Rebellion, etc.
