dc.description.abstract This presentation was given at a Workshop on Research Data Management, held at Vaal University of Technology, Goldfields Library, Vanderbijlpark, South Africa on 23 July 2015. The presentation starts with a list of reasons for managing data on, followed by an overview of the Research Data Lifecycle, and the Research Data Lifecycle in the context of the Research Lifecycle. This is followed by a chronological overview of the development of Research Data Management (RDM) at University of Pretoria. Illustrations are given of the various stakeholders in RDM, as well as the challenges that might be encountered when rolling out a Research Data Management program at a University.
