This three-piece underglaze blue-and-white porcelain ritual garniture set, consisting of two square vases based on bronze shapes and a central rectangular lidded pot on four legs with a foot stand and attachable handles, probable were made for a temple. The two similar vases are decorated with a pointed border around the neck and three bands containing Buddhist figures in the clouds and in a landscape. The central rectangular Ting pot is decorated with a fret border around the neck and Buddhist figures in a landscape, sages and panels with holy men, standing on four leonine claws for feet. The rectangular lid is decorated with flowerheads and one of the eight Buddhist precious things, the Cash, a circle enclosing a square. On the top of the lid is a blue Buddhist Dog of Fo. |
