dc.description.abstract Sir David Bruce came to Natal in 1894. He was the first to established in 1895 that the cause of a fatal disease of livestock, known as nagana, was due to a trypanosome transmitted by tsetse flies (Glossina spp.). The bacterial disease, brucellosis, in humans and animals is named after him. en
