Abstract:
There had been no political motive in the erection of the Voortrekker Monument, which would stand as a symbol of the sacrifice of the Voortrekkers who established white civilisation in South Africa.
Architect Gerard Moerdijk discusses the symbolism of the Monument and the issues he faced when he designed it.
