dc.description.abstract The Green Building Council of South Africa (GBCSA) has developed a rating tool called ‘Green Star SA – Office v1’. This is a comprehensive evaluating system for rating the environmental design and performance of South African buildings. Green Star was only introduced toward the end of 2008. The treatise aims to investigate the validity of a South African system of this nature. An overview of both Green Star rating and the Green Building Council of South Africa is included. Since 1994 the building industry has accelerated at a rapid rate and its future looks promising. However, the question to ask is: does the South African building industry really need an environmental rating system? en_US
