dc.description.abstract The author describes the development of the various forms of power over many centuries, such as the power supplied by human strength, the wind, water, electricity, nuclear energy, etc. He points out how the exploitation of a specific form of power has led to the economic growth and welfare of various countries, e.g. the use of the wind and water by the Netherlands. Finally, the author stresses the fact that the world is facing a serious power crisis, especially since the Arabian countries started increasing oil prices in 1973. Consequently, the search for new forms of power such as fusion energy, should be continued unceasingly. en_US
