Abstract:
Veterinary Medicine is a profession with a long and honorable history. This profession, along with the other health professions have played a major role in the health and welfare of both man and animal. Veterinary Medicine is thus an important health profession and as such has an important role to play in serving the diverse need of the community in a changing South Africa. In order to accomplish this, the profile of the traditional veterinarian will have to change from one who can minister to the needs of all animals, big or small, to one capable of supplying a more specialised service of higher quality
