Abstract

Reports on a study undertaken to investigate whether mineral resources have been developed and managed sustainably in South Africa, given their historical economic importance. Uses the mineral accounts to analyse broader aspects of economic performance and sustainable development in mining in South Africa. Addresses the implications for policy and resource management.
