This issue provide insight into HR appointments, as many requests were received from staff. Prof Nene Qekwana is acting as interim director of the African Centre for Biosecurity and Risk Assessment and will be looking into sustainable research funding. The outgoing OPVSC committee was acknowledged with a few 'best performance' prizes from the student life awards and the new OPVSC was welcomed. The 2024 BVSc class will be the 100th BVSc group to graduate from the Faculty of Veterinary Science. The positions for HOD of CACS and the Hospital Director post, are in the final phase and the position for HOD of PAS is advertised. Discussions with clinical staff in PAS and CACS addressed new models to strengthen student training and case management at OVAH and the role of private practice in the process. Enterprises at UP is relooking the model for management of short courses and departments will be invited to innovative sessions to identify possibilities. A number of staff with Prof Keddy as PI, co-submitted an application to the MRC for laboratory equipment to enhance research in biosecurity and preclinical drugs. Wilma Moon is appointed to ensure smooth implementation of the lab management system and Siemens sponsored a camera crew to create a marketing video for OVAH. As part of fund-raising projects the wish for a new campaign and webpage for OVAH is expressed, and the OP PGSA convinced University Marketing to take on the promotion of bone marrow donations as a major community engagement project for UP. |
