Abstract:
Photograph by H.H. McWilliams of the interior of a roof to show its wood-beam construction. It appears as Fig. 19 on page 19 of prof. Geoffrey Pearse's book "Eighteenth Century Architecture in South Africa". Steep thatched roofs enclosed the hay lofts of Cape Dutch houses, and these were lit by windows in the gables.
