Abstract:
This mini-dissertation analyses the concept of economic coercive measures, nature, historical background and application to conclude on its legality. In order to reach such a conclusion, the paper provided a conclusive definition of economic coercion under international law. It further analysed sources of international law to answer the question of legality. In addition, it discussed the available justification on the implementation of economic sanctions within international law and drew the distinction from illegal measures imposed by States. Such emphasised on the illegality of any coercive measures unauthorised by United Nations Security Council.
