dc.description Papers presented virtually at the 41st International Southern African Transport Conference on 10-13 July 2029
dc.description.abstract Many urban and rural South African people live far away from economic opportunities and spend considerable time and money commuting. This is partly due to the persistent apartheid spatial structure, exacerbated by the lack of affordable housing close to work opportunities. Furthermore, the lack of economic opportunities in the rural areas is contributing to urbanisation and housing scarcity in the urban areas. Therefore, the presentation will shed light on unlocking economic opportunities where people live. The presentation also aims to make sense of the post-apartheid political economy through the lives of the many people who live and survive in it daily
