Abstract:
Preparatory measured drawings by John Fassler of a chest and chair, both from Groote Schuur. The chest has openwork brass angle pieces and its front rests on bun feet. The back of the chair has a shaped top rail and a split back splat. The final drawings, both by G. E. Pearse, respectively appear in Plate 34 on page 113, and in Plate 12 on page 63 of the 1960 edition of prof. Pearse's book "Eighteenth Century Furniture in South Africa". The late 18th century chair is indicated in the text as being from Koopmans de Wet House. Fig. 135 is a photograph of the chest.
