Abstract:
Photograph of a square, wooden komvoor, or foot warmer, with perforated top. Komvoors were regarded as utilitarian, consumable objects. A charcoal container or tessie would have been inserted through the hole or from the top, if the top was removable. This piece resembles the one at Vergelegen, shown in Plate 56 (measured by John Fassler and C. Bristol, and drawn by Pearce) on p. 160 of the 1960 edition of prof. Geoffrey Pearce's book "Eighteenth Century Furniture in South Africa".
