dc.description.abstract The aim of this study is to explore the psychosocial implications of HIV/AIDS on the patient and his family to determine the need for multi-disciplinary involvement from a medical social work perspective. Specific reference is made to the psychosocial implications and needs, which were identified. A guideline for intervention by medical social workers is proposed. The major needs that were identified were for counselling, information, support and medication. The respondents showed a need for multi-disciplinary intervention on an individual level. The experiences of the patients were used as a basis for the conclusions and recommendations. en_ZA
