dc.description Papers presented at the 38th International Southern African Transport Conference on "Disruptive transport technologies - is South and Southern Africa ready?" held at CSIR International Convention Centre, Pretoria, South Africa on 8th to 11th July 2019.
dc.description.abstract This paper considers the challenges for major African cities to provide a better public transport service for the passengers that rely on multiple networks on a daily basis. It recognises that the long-term goal of many cities is to provide an integrated transport network, a goal that will be difficult to achieve any time soon, and discusses how current card-centric, closed loop systems could implement Account Based Ticketing platforms to provide a frictionless, integrated transport experience and a step towards Mobility as a Service.
