dc.description.abstract The importance of length as a characteristic of the merino fleece has often been stressed. It has been shown (Bosman 1937) that, in a stud ram producing 40,000 fibres per square inch of skin, every half an inch increase in staple length adds .9 pounds of wool to the scoured fleece, when it is a fine woolled fleece, and 1.4 pounds when it is a course woolled fleece. en_ZA
