This Hermetic style painting of a portrait of Ulysses was reworked by Coetzee in 1988 in his mixed topography style. Coetzee places a black cape on a noble-looking Roman Ulysses, also known as Odysseus the Greek King of Ithaca and the adventurous hero of Homer's Odyssey.
