Coetzee created this Egyptian bust for the 1987 Randse Afrikaanse Universiteit Prestige Exhibition from a plaster of Paris souvenir which he bought in France. This Cleopatra-like head is an example of some non-traditional objects which Coetzee liked to modify by painting in layered oils.
