The sculpture of a mythical gargoyle was inspired by Eloff’s faun theme and it is assumed that it was never exhibited in his lifetime. A year after Eloff’s death it was exhibited in Pretoria and was purchased by his cousin’s husband, Herman van Broekhuizen. It is possible that the original gargoyle plaster was taken to the Netherlands in the late 1950s by the owner.
