An octagonal baluster-shaped riffled Delft tin-glazed earthenware garniture pot that is decorated with eight panels of birds and flowers in underglaze blue-and-white. It has a sunken glazed base marked with “JG 32”. The lid is riffled and decorated with imitation Taoist symbols in panels and a rooster on the top. Two octagonal funnel shaped riffled Delft tin-glazed earthenware garniture vases that are decorated with four panels of birds and flowers in underglaze blue-and-white. They have sunken glazed bases each marked with “JG 32”. Their lids are flatter than that of the central pot, but are similarly decorated. The famous 18th century Delft potter, Johannes Gaal made this set of vases. He entered the master potter’s Guild of St Luke in 1707. Mr Van Tilburg bought the set from Theo Wyngaart, a Dutch still-life painter, who in turn had bought it from a Mrs Wassenaar in Delft. |
