dc.description A rectangular underglaze blue-and white earthenware Delft fruit-bowl decorated with pheasants, peonies and foliage in the Chinese Kangxi style. The edge is scalloped with shell motifs on a fish-scale background. There are four foliate sprigs on the back of the bowl and the base is sunken, glazed and marked with an axe in underglaze blue. Like the decoration on most early Delft ceramics, the decoration on this fruit-bowl resembles Chinese motifs from the time of Emperor Kangxi (1662-1735). Dr Jan Boyazoglu in his book Les Faiences de Delft (1980) dates this fruit-bowl between 1679 and 1697. The bowl was made by the De Porceleyne Bijl company. en_ZA
