dc.description |
This painting is very typical of Bettie Cilliers-Barnard’s use of image, form and colour at the time. The whole picture plane is divided into broad geometric colour planes in which images are trapped and freed. The gateway or “poort” invites one in, the bright orange and blue sun holds promise and the gull-like birds signify freedom of choice. To the right profiled heads stare in anticipation. |
