dc.description This pencil drawing experiments with the new symbol of the circle which Bettie developed in her work from 1966 onwards. It is not only a symbol of the self, but also of wholeness. It points to the artist’s relationship with total reality. Here the circular motif is juxtaposed onto an emblematic shield which again hints at the African mystique. en_ZA
