dc.description |
By 1973 Bettie Cilliers-Barnard was wholeheartedly engaged with representing
humanity. The totem-like archetypical mother on the left of the picture plane
stands within her space and is accompanied by her three totem-like daughters
in their space capsule on the right. This pastel drawing is a preliminary study in
which the artist develops her concepts for the many chess-like figures that were
to follow. |
