The purpose and scope of this paper may be summarized as follows: An attempt to make the Industrial Engineering community aware of the existence and potential benefits of Expert Systems technology, providing a superficial introduction to the basic concepts and terminology of Expert Systems, and exploring some of the interfaces between Industrial Engineering and Expert Systems as well as the possible worthwhile applications within the South African context. |
