Abstract:
Gilles van der Wall de Kock was one of the first two students to be sent abroad (to the Royal College in London) by the South African Government (in 1909) to be trained as a veterinarian. When the Faculty of Veterinary Science commenced at Onderstepoort in 1920 he was appointed as its first professor of Veterinary Anatomy. In 1924 he transferred to Veterinary Pathology. He succeeded P.J. du Toit as Director of Veterinary Services and Dean of the Faculty in 1948. He retired in 1949. He died on 28 August 1973.
