Abstract:
This is a feedback report on a study visit by Mr Johann van Wyk and Mr Hamilton Mphidi from 8 April - 3 May 2003, to libraries in the United States on behalf of the Faculty of Education and the Academic Information Service of the University of Pretoria. The purpose of the visit was to investigate most recent technological systems that regulate the organisation and planning of academic libraries, compare journal lists of UP's Education library with US libraries, to investigate the possibility of partnerships with US libraries, to document innovative ideas of supporting students, to investigate how "education libraries" are organised in terms of book-sections, journal-sections, media and photocopying sections, and to ensure through discussions and observations that the Education Library of the University of Pretoria reflects best practices in the use and organisation of information sources for advanced research and learning.
