dc.description.abstract |
The South African Government, most of the South African public, and not least the private business sector, are highly motivated to host a successful 2010 Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA) World Cup. The tournament is seen as an opportunity to ensure long-term sustainable development of the social and economic infrastructure and to enhance job creation, as well as poverty alleviation and tourism, to name but a few aims over and above sport development. However, security is a major factor in a country where crime is rife and where reports of murder, rape, and violent armed robbery are a daily occurrence. |
