It is generally accepted today that technological innovation plays a major role in the economic advancement of nations. While striving to compete successfully in global markets, local industry faces unique technological requirements. The efficient management of technology and the related engineering processes become increasingly important for a competitive economy, especially within the mixed first and third world economy in South Africa. The Department of Engineering and Technology Management has, in line with the strategic objectives of the University of Pretoria, an important task to fulfil in this regard. This task is analysed and elucidated from a strategic perspective.
