Bernward of Hildesheim was born in 960 and in 993, at the age of 33, he was sworn in as the Bishop of Hildesheim. This event, which took place 1000 years ago, is commemorated this year. More specifically, the contribution that Bernward as theologian-artist and patron of the arts made to the decorative arts, sculpture and architecture of the Ottonian era, is remembered in medieval circles during 1993. |
