In die artikel word enkele poststrukturalistiese strategiee gebruik in 'n poging om die Van Gogh-teks in beweging te hou. Op 'n ander vlak plaas dit die gekompliseerde verhoudings tussen taal en die visuele beeld, tussen outeur en interpretasie, en tussen diskoers genres in spel.
The life and work of Van Gogh have been scrutinised from so many angles that productive movement in any discourse on his work appears almost impossible. In the article a few post-structuralist strategies are followed in an attempt to retain some movement in the Van Gogh text. At another level it puts the complicated relationships between language and the visual image, between author and interpretation, and between genres of discourse, into play.
