Lanseria International Airport is being subjected to infrastructure upgrades to accommodate an increase in demand in passenger numbers. These demands will be fulfilled by other airlines that will be operating from Lanseria International Airport in the future. Before any agreements can be made Lanseria International Airport must perform an analysis in order to determine if such upgrade possibilities are feasible. This project focuses on the capacity analysis of the land and airside of Lanseria Airport. The analysis will determine the optimal number of aircraft operations that can be performed during peak hours without causing congestion and delays within the terminal or on the apron.
Simulation modelling will be used to address this problem. Simulation is a flexible technique that can be used to reflect real life situations as well as possible future solutions. These solutions can be evaluated according to time performance measures before the final decision is made. The arrival and departure processes of domestic flights will be modelled as well as the passenger flow throughout these processes. The type of data needed for the model as well as methods for determining these data is described. Different scenarios will be described and evaluated in the simulation model in order to eliminate bottlenecks in the system. This project will provide quantitative information about the number of aircraft operations that can be accommodated as well as the resources required. The results will serve as decision support for the managers of Lanseria International Airport. |
