Proposed new English medium school boys' hostel at Polokwane (Pietersburg) for the then Transvaal Provincial Administration. Also new hostel for girls (matron's & staff quarters, study room, & dining hall only.) Sketch plans, section, elevations and site plan in pencil & coloured pencil.
Frank Lloyd Wright's influence becomes visible in the design. The boys’ hostel recalls Taliesen East (1911), where a compound is surrounded on three sides by buildings. The focus of Taliesen East was on the space rather than the building – the fourth side to the space was held by a hill in the distance. Perhaps Eaton responded similarly. The girls’ hostel for the English medium school is also very similar to the strategies present in Wright’s Hillside School (1902).
