The main aim of the project is to optimise the malt distribution network of the South African Breweries (SAB) in such a manner as to present them with a minimum cost solution for the network. Mathematical modelling is used as a tool to approach the distribution network design problem. The problem SAB faces fits the description of a Capacitated Facility Location Problem, which is modelled as a Mixed Integer Program. The modelling language, GAMS, is used to formulate the mathematical model into an algorithm and the model is solved using the solver, CPLEX. |
