dc.description.abstract This article sets out to introduce the reader to VCs in general and decentralised convertible VCs ("DCVCs") in particular. Bitcoin is considered the leading type of DCVC in terms of value and volume. Since Bitcoin is becoming local, its early beginnings and prevalence in the South African marketplace are probed, adjacent to the South African regulatory response to VCs in general. en_ZA
