dc.description.abstract Systematic theology, especially the so-called foundational theology, has a strong connection with traditions of philosophy, at least in Western thinking. From the 20th century onward, systematic theology was often focussed on forms of transcendental philosophy. This article argues why this kind of research has to be deepened by research into different forms of spirituality. Research into ‘lived spirituality’ offers new pathways for foundational theology and makes the need to develop a renewed approach to foundational theology all the more urgent. en_ZA
