Abstract:
A famous rain-animal image cluster from the Slabberts region of the eastern Free State, South Africa. Initially interpreted as representing two hippopotamus in pools of water (zigzags), San ethnography more adequately identifies these as 'rain-animals'. Rain-animals were large, composite creatures that lived in deep pools of water in the San Spirit World.
