Peter Thuynsma succeeded Eskia’
Mphahlele as Professor of African
Literature at the University of the
Witwatersrand, Johannesburg. He
enjoyed Mphahlele’s tutelage in
Zambia and at the University of
Denver (USA) and, with him, codirected
the Council for Black
Education and Research in Soweto.
