dc.description.abstract	Inaugural address in Afrikaans with a summary in English wherein is stated that engineering education should be academic rather than technological in order to meet the challenges of technologies still to come. In an academic education fundamental principles and how to apply them are stressed, whereas in a technological training the student is taught how to operate the technology of the day.
