"The Golden Cabinet Of The Noble And Liberal Art Of Painting" was written in Flemish shortly before 1661 by the Antwerp rederijker, Cornelius de Bie. In this article it is discussed for the first time in the context of its position in the
history of Netherlandish art theory. The tract follows more or less traditional lines concerning theory about Imitation and Art Education as well as in the application of art theoretical jargon in assessing paintings. It contributes, however, in its extension of the notion of "ut pictura poesis" to the art of architecture. Its greatest contribution is made in its recognition and upgrading of various genres of painting previously regarded as inferior.; "Die Gulden Cabinet Vande Edele Vrij Schilderconst" is kort voor 1661 geskryf deur die Antwerpse rederijker, Cornelius de Bie. In hierdie artikel word dit vir die eerste keer bespreek in die konteks van die Nederlandse kunsteorie. Die teorie oor Imitasie en Kunsopleiding, en die toepassing van aanvaarde kunsteoretiese terme in die evaluering van skilderye volg die tradisionele argumente na. Die boek lewer 'n bydrae deur die uitbreiding van die gedagte van "ut pictura poesis" tot die
argitektuur. Die grootste bydrae word gelewer deur die erkenning en verheffing van verskeie skildergenres wat voorheen beskou is as van 'n laer rang.

From time to time writers on the rock paintings of South Africa have drawn attention to the depiction of tusks on animals that do not have them in real life and also to tusks on snakes and therianthropic figures. The known examples are collated and tabulated together with a brief description of the main features of the printed contexts in which they appear. The relevant zoology and ethnography are examined and two possible hypotheses for the meaning of the tusks are considered as a basis for future study of this interesting artistic phenomenon.; In die literatuur oor rotskuns in Suid-Afrika word daar verskeie male verwys na afbeeldings van groot slagtande by diere wat dit nie in die werklikheid het nie en ook na sulke tande by slange en dieragtige mensfigure. Die voorbeelde wat tot dusver bekend is word in hierdie artikel oorsigtelik in 'n tabel geplaas en 'n kort beskrywing word gegee van die verband waarin hulle in die literatuur verskyn. 'n Ondersoek is gedoen na die betrokke dierkundige en volkekundige
verbande en twee hipoteses word voorgestel vir die betekenis van die tande as 'n basis vir verdere navorsing van hierdie interessante artistieke verskynsel.

Little is known about the pieces of South African rock art in collections overseas. This article offers the results of an intensive search for such examples worldwide. The information is given in tables in the Addendum and is proceded [preceded] by concise biographical notes on the collectors (often travellers) of rock art. The information for this article was obtained in the course of the research for the bibliography project on rock art with which the author is associated.; Daar is weinig bekend oor die voorbeelde van Suid-Afrikaanse rotskuns in buitelandse versamelings. In hierdie artikel word die resultaat aangebied van ‘n intensiewe soektog na sulke voorbeelde wereldwyd. Die inligting verskyn in tabelvorm in die Addendum, en dit word voorafgegaan deur kort biografiese gedeeltes oor die versamelaars (meestal reisigers) van die rotskuns. In hierdie artikel word daar gekonsentreer op die beskrywing en interpretering van twee Hindoetempels in Johannesburg. Die twee tempels is geselekteer vir bespreking as synde verteenwoordigend van alternatiewe in die vorm-funksie-verband van Hindoetempels in die betrokke omgewing. Hierdie alternatiewe word uitgelig aan die hand van 'n metodologiese kategorieeskema wat fisiese, psigiese, sosiale, kulturele en religieuse koordinate bevat.; This article concentrates on the description and interpretation of two Hindu temples in Johannesburg. These two temples were selected for discussion as being representative of alternatives in the relationship between the form and function of Hindu temples in the relevant environment. These alternatives are identified on the basis of a methodological schema of categories which include physical, psychological, social, cultural and religious co-ordinates.
